As reported August 18/07 by the Halifax Daily News
". . . Today, the congregation of the Seventh Day
Adventist Church in Tantallon will whisk the tarp off a five-tonne granite monument.
"It's actually a replica of the old church," said David Crook. ". . . we've
had a sculptor do a front and side view of the old church on this monument."
The church - built in 1891 and torn down about two years ago - is historically significant,
but then again, so are the people who attend faithfully.
"It is actually the oldest continuing Seventh Day Adventist congregation in the
Maritimes, and the second oldest in Canada," Crook said. "The congregation moved to a
new church on Peggy's Cove Road in 1976."
The 1.4-metre long by 1.2-metre high granite monument will sit on the site of the old church
on Longards Road. It was sculpted by Maplewood resident Tobias Lange, [20 years] . . ."

Tobias works well with families who wish to design their loved-one's gravestone. His
stone cutting and carving not only personalizes the
memorial, it can be an important part of grieving. The stone
above came from the family's own property - the Langes removed it and took it to Tobias'
workshop. He carved the name, date and the 23rd Psalm on the front. The back is home to the deepest
feelings of love the widow expresses for her husband. "It really meant a lot to the
family," says Silvia Lange.

The headstones shown above feature two very distinct styles.
